About Me
My name's Sara, I'm the Project Manager of MDG's Campus Challenge - an idea powered by the Portuguese NGO PAR - Respostas Sociais (which means: Pair - Social answers). This project was launched in October 2010, and involved more than 250 universitary students from all over our country - rocking on and doing Advocacy Actions on behalf of the MDG's on their communities and Universities since then. This project is still a huge success here and we are now on our Challenge's last stage - the winner team will have the chance to go in August to a field mission in Guinea Bissau - with the goal of preparing a huge Advocacy action in Portugal in 2012 concerning the specific situation of Guinea regarding the MDG's.
I studied International Relations and started in 2007 working on the Development Education/ Cooperation/ NGO's area - I love what I do, I'm a team player, I like to see the potential of people and projects rise and feel happy that my professional skills can help in fighting for fair causes. It's not always easy for sure, or consensual, still I truly believe in the power of people to promote a different way of living and a more fair development - and that people can be entrepreneurs of change.
About the MDGs
I'm very interested in supporting the MDG's because first all, as a global citizen, I'm truly engaged and concerned to what is happening far from me, even if it is on the other side of the world. Through the years I understood how important it is to be able to understand the differences and social injustices that still characterize the life of so many people in the world - which for sure don't have the same opportunities that I had growing as a privileged one. Privileged not for being rich but because I belong to the small percentage of people in the world which has access to: Universitary Education; Clean and potable Water in my house; Electricity 24h per day; Food in my table three times a day; A democratic system - with all it's fallibility, but still democratic; Access to health and to be able to give birth in secure conditions etc. etc.
How could I not care about the MDG’s? How could I not care about what's happening everyday to people who fight to have the same conditions I had already without doing nothing only, lucky shot, being born in the North – in Europe – in Portugal – in Lisbon.
The MDG's would be possible to achieve if only all the States were truly compromised with the promises they made in 2000 - and this all of us as citizens are engaged to demand.
Professionally my work is to promote the MDG's among Portuguese universitary students - we truly believe that these youngsters who in a few years will probably be in decision places are able to develop activities and take action to involve others and change mentalities. The impact of these changes is for sure difficult to measure - we know that - and always work to efficiently evaluate our action.
MDG's are a matter not of aid, but of social justice and that's why we are focused in promoting them and do our part (in a positive and constructive way) on their, very difficult, achievement.
